The Campaign Web Site for a 'Puffin Crossing' on the A608 in Morley Village, Derbyshire

Q: Why Do We Need A Crossing?

A: When it's too late - It's Too Late!

Please support the campaign. Lets prevent an accident before it's too late.

There are many reasons why this stretch of road needs improved safety for the local community and the children of the School:

Crossing Confussion:

The crossing outside Morley Primary School is only a designated crossing point between the hours of 8.25am and 9.05am 3.25pm and 3.55pm term time only. Only between these time slots does a designated lollipop crossing warden have the full backing of the Highway Code and Police Enforcement. Confused?..... yes it is confusing. Spare a thought for the ever increasing EU traffic and drivers on our roads and you will appreciate the need for clear uniform signalling to protect pedestrians crossing at this location.

Current Usage, Need and Risk:

Who would use the Crossing?

Pupils currently 54, Parents and siblings approx 120, Staff of school 10 plus permanent student placement, Morley Evergreens, Residents of Village approx 400, Patrons of the Public House, Worshipers at the Church, Community Youth Club approximately 30, Parish Council, Women's Institute, Guests at the Morley Retreat, Students of Broomfield College, Local Walkers and Visiting Walkers/Hikers.

When would the crossing be used?

The School which was given outstanding status in the recent Ofsted reviews.

Day time use

Pupils. Daily 9am and 3.30pm. Weekly Mon and Thurs four extra crossings of 33 pupils and staff for swimming and PE activities during morning session in school. Morley School has no sports playing field and the children often walk to Morley Hall or Broomfield College to play field sports. There is no school car park. By gracious favour of the local pub, The Three Horse shoes, parents may park to pick up and deliver pupils. The pub is situated on the opposite side of the A608 to the school. After school clubs three afternoons per week finish at 4.30pm for example line dancing club has 30+ children. All trips which have coach transport involves the need to cross the children four times over this busy road, as coach parking is again only possible in the car park of the Three Horse Shoes:
